Political letter

Dear Neighbor,

As you know, Robert Travaglini recently stepped down as President of the Mass State Senate. Now it's up to us — the people of Revere, Winthrop, East Boston and Cambridge — to choose his successor. Who should it be?

What kind of person do you want to represent you? Another Beacon Hill insider? Or perhaps a newcomer with little or no political experience? There is a better choice.

I'm Dan Rizzo, and I believe my combination of real-world and political experience make me the most qualified candidate for this important job.

Yes, I'd like to be your next State Senator, and have the privilege of representing the First Suffolk and Middlesex Senate District. But before I ask for your vote in the upcoming election on (date), you probably want to know a little bit about me.

Real World + Political Experience

First of all, I'm a businessman — not a career politician. I'm not part of the Beacon Hill establishment. I've spent the past 20 years working hard to build a successful business and raise my kids, while devoting much of my spare time to serving the community.

I'm currently serving my fourth term on the Revere City Council. I'm chairperson of the Economic Development Subcommittee, and have also chaired committees on Ways and Means, Zoning, and Elder Affairs.

Fiscal restraint is the invisible hand guiding all my actions. I believe government should never waste the taxpayer's hard-earned money. I've introduced over 375 motions, and have earned a reputation as one of Revere's most successful councilors, aggressively championing the best interests of the people. For example:

  • I introduced a motion that refinanced Revere's long term debt. That saves taxpayers over $250,000 per year.

  • I pushed for a Rainy Day Fund so the town would have the cash to weather life's little surprises. That fund has grown to over $1.2 million and has even helped improve the city’s bond rating.

  • Another motion I sponsored collected $75,000 from a large local company.

  • I also pushed through an anti-gang ordinance which has successfully reduced street crime.

Everything I did had a single goal: to serve the best interests of the voters. Now I'd like to do the same for all the people of Revere, Winthrop, East Boston and Cambridge.  Will you help me?

Personal and Professional Ties to our Community

Through my company, Rizzo Insurance, and a wide network of friends and colleagues, my family and I enjoy close personal and professional ties to all the communities in the First Suffolk and Middlesex Senate District.

  • Both my wife, Jane, and I are longtime members of the Winthrop business community. I've served on the Board of Directors of Winthrop Federal Credit Union for five years. Jane is on the board of the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce and has extensive community ties through her work with both Mass Electric and Comcast.

  • We live with our two sons in Revere, where I've served as President of the Revere Chamber of Commerce and Revere Rotary Club. I'm a longtime member of both organizations.

  • In Cambridge, I serve on the board of the Metro North Regional Employment Board, which has helped over 20,000 job seekers in two dozen communities find meaningful, satisfying work.

I'm also active in a variety of civic and fraternal organizations, including the St. Mary’s Holy Name Society and Italian American Club. I'm a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion. During my six years in the Navy, I served aboard the USS Independence in the Persian Gulf, Grenada and the Middle East. I earned my B.A. and B.S. degrees from Emmanuel College.

The Most Qualified Candidate

As I said earlier, I'm convinced my combination of real-world experience and political effectiveness make me the most qualified, serious candidate for this very important senate seat. If you agree, I would appreciate your support and your vote in the special election on (date).

Sincerely,

Dan Rizzo
Rizzo for State Senate

PS: If I'm elected and have the privilege of serving as your state senator, I can guarantee you this: Your needs, your interests and your desires will be the only driving force behind every action I take, every motion I propose, every vote I cast.
