Editing for Executives & Consultants

Working on an important proposal or report? Struggling to write an article for an influential trade journal -- something that could really enhance your reputation? Need a speech, presentation or letter that will really knock 'em out?

Maybe you should seek professional help. No, not that kind. Professional editing help.

Editing for executives and consultantsLet's face it, writing is tough. (Well, good writing is tough.) Producing a business document, article or speech that's both informative and persuasive can take a lot of time. Time that might be more profitably spent focusing on your core competencies -- the things that actually make you money.

For a modest fee, you can have a professional writer/ editor with over 20 years experience review, critique, edit and/or rewrite your work.

If you don't have the time or inclination to write it yourself, I can ghost-write it for you.

In either case, your satisfaction is guaranteed. That's right. You have no risk!

Call in the special teams

Forgive the sports analogy, but the quarterback is a highly-paid specialist -- just like you are. But nobody expects him to kick field goals, too. Instead they call in a kicking specialist.

It's the same for consultants and high-level executives. You're an expert at what you do. When you require creative, confidential editing or writing assistance, you're savvy enough to call in a specialist -- someone who can do the job more effectively and more cost-efficiently, and free you to get back to your core competencies.

Just consider me a member of your "special teams" unit!

"Tom is both creative and pragmatic, qualities that are especially important to a consultant or small- business owner. He's a great listener who "hears' his clients and responds to their needs in ways that are always effective."

Shelley Hall, Consultant

The high cost of bad writing

Business writing is often dull. Bloated. Overwritten. Unfocused. Pompous. Confusing.

Because of that, too much business writing isn't read or understood. Because it doesn't communicate clearly, it's ineffective. It doesn't do what it's supposed to do -- inform, explain, persuade, motivate, sell, etc.

For example, your employees ignore the latest change in procedure because they couldn't understand the memo explaining it. That's bad enough. But what about your boss? Potential clients and customers? What if they have the same reaction? What if they shake their heads and look for someone else? Someone they can understand.

Bad writing wastes precious time. Poor communication costs organizations millions of dollars a year. Unclear, ambiguous instructions sabotage efficient business processes.

Everyone's swamped with information overload already. Who's going to bother trying to hack through the underbrush of somebody's tortured syntax?

Clarity, impact and power

But your reports, proposals, memos and deliverables don't have to be like that. An experienced pro can quickly review your next important project for errors. Smooth out the rough spots. Recognize and eliminate potential confusion and ambiguities. Trim the fat. Omit unnecessary words.

I'll clean it up, so it's crisp, clear and correct. If necessary, I'll edit the way it's organized and expressed to enhance its impact -- to add power and punch.

A professional review like this also reassures you that all your grammar is correct, that you used the right word in the proper way, and that your meaning is clear. Result: you have more confidence in your work.

And your clients have more confidence in you.

Remember: The easier and clearer your work is, the more likely someone influential will notice it. That can speed up your rise to the top. Even seemingly-minor revisions can sometimes make a profound difference. Often it can be the difference between signing a lucrative new client -- and seeing them slip away.

Confidential, comprehensive, and affordable

Remember, your satisfaction is always guaranteed. You retain all legal rights, including copyright, to the finished work. Best of all, you enjoy peace of mind, knowing that your written materials are the best they can be. They'll reflect the same professionalism that you do.

Explanation of Editorial Services

Writing: You give me the raw material. I write it for you. Simple, eh? (I can also do additional research.)

Critique: I review what you've written and suggest changes to make it better. You make the changes yourself, reducing your expense.

Edit: I review what you've written, then go ahead and correct any spelling, grammar and word usage errors. I can also make minor changes to tighten it up and make it flow more smoothly. The result looks very much like what you originally wrote -- just smoother, clearer and more effective.

Rewrite: I review what you've written and make whatever changes are required to give it more power, punch and clarity, to make it most effective. A rewrite can sometimes involve fairly drastic changes to its organization, expression, tone, etc.

Ghost-write: I write it for you. You get the byline, the glory, even any writer's fees the publication might pay.
